Cooling Centers

The following cooling centers are open for anyone seeking refuge from the heat and sun. Call your local center for hours of operation and more information.

  • East Greenwich: Swift Community Center, 121 Pierce St., 886-8669, ext. 1, 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Outside of these hours, call the Police Department at 884-2244.
  • East Providence: East Providence Senior Center, 610 Waterman Ave., 435-7800, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
  • Johnston: Johnston Senior Center, 291 Hartford Ave., 944-3343, open all week, including Saturday, until 7:00 p.m.; will stay open if need be.
  • Middletown:
    • Middletown Senior Center, Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 4:00pm
    • Middletown Town Hall, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm
  • North Kingstown: North Kingstown Senior Center, 44 Beach St., 294-3331, ext. 400
  • Pawtucket: Leon Mathieu Senior Center, 420 Main Street, 728-7582, Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

  • Providence:
    • Capitol Community Center, 110 Ruggles St., 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
    • Davinci Center for Community Progress, 470 Charles St., 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
    • Federal Hill House, 9 Courtland St., 6:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
    • Jewish Community Center, 409 Elmgrove Ave., Wed. - Thu. 5:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m., Fri. 5:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
    • Joslin Community Development Corporation, 231 Amherst St., 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
    • Nickerson Community Center, 133 Delaine St., 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
    • Silver Lake Annex Multi-Purpose Community Center, 529 Plainfield St., 6:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
    • West End Community Center, 109 Bucklin St., 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
  • Richmond:
    • Richmond Community Center, 2nd Floor above Police Station, 1168 Main St., Wyoming, Thursday - Saturday all day
    • Richmond Town Hall, Council Chambers, 5 Richmond Townhouse Rd., Wyoming, Thursday and Friday 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

People may also seek shelter at the following Community Library branches:
